The Bride's Kit
Everything for the big day
The dress is the star, but a few small things decide whether it looks perfect at the altar. This is a short list on purpose: only the things worth buying, in the order you'll need them.
Before the fittings
- A soft measuring tape: for your measurements, taken with a friend. Our measuring guide says how.
- Whatever you'll wear underneath on the day, and your wedding shoes. Get them before the first fitting and bring them to every one, because the fit and the hem are set to them.
Keeping the dress perfect
- A breathable garment bag: long enough for the train. Never keep the dress in plastic, because it traps moisture and yellows the fabric.
- The Conair Turbo ExtremeSteam: a handheld steamer strong enough for a full skirt. Test it on a hidden seam first, and never iron lace or tulle.
On the day
- The Pinch Provisions kit for brides: a small pouch with the needle and thread, safety pins, stain wipe and the rest of the little fixes. Give it to a bridesmaid.
- Hollywood Fashion Secrets tape: keeps straps and necklines exactly where they belong.
- A Tide to Go pen: for the inevitable drop of coffee or wine. Dab, don't rub.
After the wedding
- A Gaylord Archival gown box: have the dress cleaned soon after the wedding, then store it flat in this. Look for a box that is lignin-free as well as acid-free, all the way through: an acid-free box that isn't lignin-free turns acidic within a few years.
Pack the day-of items in one small bag and give it to a bridesmaid. The bride shouldn't be carrying it.
